Matric Dance Hair & Makeup in Cape Town: How to Plan Your Look
Your matric dance is one of the biggest nights of your school life, and you'll want to feel confident from the moment you walk in. The right hair and makeup helps, and a little planning makes it easy.
Here is how I suggest planning your matric dance look, whether you're in Cape Town or nearby.
Book early
Matric dance season is busy, and many girls want to be ready at around the same time. Booking as soon as you have your date means you get the time you want, and you won't be stuck searching for an artist at the last minute.
Check your dress, your hairstyle idea and your date with your parents, then get in touch to check availability.
Start with your dress
Your dress decides a lot of the look. The neckline, the colour and the details all affect which hairstyle and makeup suit you best.
- For a high or detailed neckline, an updo or half-up style usually shows it off.
- For a bare neckline or an open back, wearing your hair down in soft curls can look lovely.
- For a bold dress colour, softer makeup keeps the look balanced. For a simple dress, you can go a little bolder.
Send me a photo of your dress when you book. It makes planning much easier.

Keep it natural, but make it last
Matric dance photos are taken up close, so skin that looks fresh matters more than heavy makeup. I like to keep the base light and the colour soft, and still build the look to last through photos, dancing and a long night.
If you have specific skin concerns, such as breakouts or sensitive skin, tell me beforehand so I can plan around them.
Think about your hair
Pick a style that you'll still enjoy at the end of the night. A hairstyle that looks great but is uncomfortable, or that falls out when you dance, won't be fun.
Bring photos of styles you like, and tell me about your hair type and length. I can then tell you honestly what will work and what will hold.
Do a trial if you can
A trial takes the guesswork out of your look. You can try the hair and makeup with your dress in mind, and make changes before the night. Read more in Get Ready for Your Bridal Hair & Makeup Trial.
Getting ready on the day
- Arrive with clean, dry hair and a clean face, with no products on your skin or in your hair.
- Wear a button-up or loose top, so you don't pull anything over your finished look.
- Have your shoes, jewellery and any hair accessories ready.
- Eat something and drink water before we start.

Friends and group bookings
If you and your friends are getting ready together, let me know how many of you there are. It helps me plan the timing, so everyone is ready on time and you can enjoy the afternoon together.
